Sayan Chatterjee, 03 December 2024, Mumbai: Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) Western Naval Command, addressed the media onboard INS Mormugao, the Indian Navy’s state-of-the-art stealth destroyer, as part of the Navy Week 2024 celebrations.
In his address, the Vice Admiral highlighted the Western Naval Command’s robust efforts to secure India’s maritime interests, including extensive ships, submarines, and aircraft deployment. Over the past year, he underscored the Command’s achievements in mission-based deployments, coastal defence, international naval exercises, anti-piracy and anti-narcotics operations, disaster relief, and environmental initiatives.
During the interactive session, he responded to questions on diverse topics, including the Navy’s role in coastal security, advancements in indigenous warship production, integration of artificial intelligence, cyber defence strategies, and future acquisition plans. He also elaborated on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for extreme operational conditions and measures to combat drug trafficking through maritime routes.
The Indian Navy celebrates Navy Day annually on 04 December, commemorating the audacious naval operation during the 1971 Indo-Pak war that decimated Karachi’s port facilities and enemy warships. Vice Admiral Singh’s interaction showcased the Navy’s preparedness and unwavering commitment to national security while reaffirming its focus on innovation, sustainability, and regional stability.
