You’ll rarely find someone these days who isn’t aware of or has not tried cannabinoid products yet. CBD (Cannabidiol) usually gets all of the attention, but in recent years people have started experimenting with other cannabinoids like CBN (Cannabinol) and CBG (Cannabigerol).
Both these cannabinoids are found present in very low amounts in cannabis plants, making them a bit difficult and expensive to produce.
But their demand is on a constant rise, and brands are now making efforts to offer products with both. One is known as the mother of cannabinoids, while the other is known as the best sleep aid.
There are plenty of studies now proving the efficacy of cannabinoids for pain, anxiety, and sleep-related issues.
But which one should you choose between CBG oil tincture or CBN gummies? Well, that’s exactly what we will try to answer in this article. Read on to find out about everything about these two lesser-known yet fast-growing cannabinoids.
What Is CBN?
Cannabinol, or CBN, is the very first discovered cannabinoid, first discovered in cannabis plants back in 1896. Later on in the 1930s, Robert Sydney Cahn (a British chemist) shed light on its complete structure for the very first time.
In the 1940s, initial studies were conducted on it to study its effects on animals and then humans. It never got as much limelight as CBD, but recently things have changed due to more money being spent on studies and the demand for people to try different cannabinoid products.
Many brands now sell CBN oil, gummies, and tinctures, promoting them as the best products for enhancing sleep quality. CBN is not there at the beginning stages of cannabis plants.
Why? Because it forms when THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the intoxicating cannabinoid, breaks down over time due to interaction with light, air, and heat, the process is known as oxidative decarboxylation. That’s why it’s found in older, dried, and mature cannabis plants.
This is also the reason why CBN has very mild psychoactive effects because it’s basically a less potent form of THC. Due to its lower affinity to CB1 receptors, you’ll have to consume it in very high doses to experience any sort of mild sedation.
What Is CBG?
CBG, or cannabigerol, is also a cannabinoid found in hemp plants, and just like CBN, its concentrations are also very low, but for different reasons. Its acidic form, CBGA (cannabigerol), converts into the acidic forms of CBD and THC.
So it’s there initially in younger cannabis sativa plants, but as they grow, it disperses into other cannabinoids, hence the name “Mother of Cannabinoids.“. It’s a completely non-intoxicating cannabinoid, so you cannot get high or stoned from consuming it, not even mildly.
It’s mainly known for relaxing, pain-relieving, and energizing effects, and it has appetite-stimulating effects. Just like other cannabinoids, CBG also makes the endocannabinoid system more efficient by mainly targeting CB1 and CB2 receptors.
In some initial studies, CBG has shown both anti-tumoral and neuroprotective properties. Usually, you’ll find CBG products with the same ratio of CBD in them, which results in a more potent and wide spectrum of holistic health-boosting effects.
So Which One Is More Effective?
Well, it all boils down to your body chemistry, personal preferences, medication history, and the ailments you are trying to cure. In terms of effectiveness, CBN is known for its sleep-inducing effects.
Because of its THC origin, it has better relaxing and sedating effects on the human body than other cannabinoids like CBD and CBG. Taking a few CBN gummies before bed can cause your body to wind down after a long and stressful day and support a more rejuvenating sleep cycle than usual.
CBN has a higher affinity for CB2 receptors, which are an important part of immune cells and have antimicrobial properties. It’s also effective in the treatment of ocular diseases like bullosa.
Through its impact on TRP channels, CBN exhibits relieving effects against skin itching, inflammation, and pain-related issues. So, in summation, CBN should suit people who have bad sleep hygiene and skin-related issues.
CBG, on the other hand, is known for its oxidative stress-relieving properties. So for day-to-day hectic events, carrying CBG oil along can be a good choice. See, let’s get one thing clear: all cannabinoids in general are good for feeling relaxed.
Whether you get CBD, CBG, or CBN products, all will have a positive and holistic impact on your health. The key is to use them regularly and as per the guided dosage. But, of course, one cannabinoid product may be better at providing enhanced relief for a certain condition than another.
For example, CBG is proven to be efficacious in the treatment of chemotherapy patients who suffer from weight loss and atrophy. It can stimulate their appetite and balance during or after the therapy sessions.
In a neck-to-neck competition, we can only say that CBN is better suited for sleep disorder issues like insomnia, disturbed sleep cycles, wakefulness, lack of deep sleep, and more. At the same time, CBG is more known for its pain-relieving and neuroprotective properties.
The End Note:
To sum it up, both CBN and CBG have their own unique set of healing and therapeutic properties. This doesn’t mean that you can’t both be together or use one in place of another. It’s just that both are effective for general anxiety, pain, and stress-related issues but do have an edge over the other in certain health conditions.
For example, CBN is better for sleep and skin and bone health-related issues, whereas CBG is slightly better for eye health, neurological disorders, and digestive health issues.
In terms of how you’ll feel, CBN will have a slightly relaxing and sedative impact on your mood, and CBG might make you feel a bit more energized and focused. Both are technically rare and lesser-known cannabinoids because CBN is not present in young plants, whereas CBG is present in mature plants.
So maybe give it a shot and stick with one that suits you best. Just make sure to buy them from reputed and trusted brands like Colorado Botanicals. Finally, begin your wellness journey with a low dose and increase your water intake because cannabinoids have a tendency to cause dehydration and cottonmouth.
