In a dramatic ‘twisty-turny’ final of the Asia Cup being held in Dubai, Sri Lanka beat all odds to hand defeat to Pakistan and clinch the title for the sixth time.
After being put in to bat, Bhanuka Rajapaksa top-scored for Sri Lanka with 71 not out 45 off balls to take his team to 170/6 at the end of 20. Haris Rauf scalped three for the fielding side.
While it seemed like an achievable total, Sri Lanka made it difficult for Pakistan to score throughout their chase.
Wanindu Hasaranga starred with a brilliant cameo of 36 with a the bat. He then took three wickets in the 17th over alone, to seal his man-of-the-match prize and turn the screws on the Pakistan batting.
Pakistan ended up being bowled out for 147, handing Sri Lanka a convincing win, after they were down 67/5 in the first ten overs, making it an an amazing comeback and a well-deserved victory for the champions.
