This is because school uniforms provide a sense of togetherness among students, reduce bullying, and help keep students safe in the outside environment.
Wearing a school uniform can create a strong sense of unity among students. A school uniform is generally all the same pieces of clothing, with every student wearing the same colours, the same style, and all share the school’s emblem and other symbols.
Therefore, every student has something in common. A school is a form of community, and when many people of a community have something common to share, it forms and strengthens meaningful and deep bonds.
Students will feel united, and they will all feel equal.
School uniforms aren’t outdated, if it means that students can all work together and improve their school experience.
School uniforms can greatly reduce the incidence of bullying in schools. In such a school there will be children from all backgrounds and identities.
There will be rich children, and poor children, there will be privileged children, and less privileged students.
There will be students with backgrounds from countries all over the world, and there will be many religions students follow. If students were allowed to wear clothes of their own choice, many rich kids might show up in expensive and luxurious clothes, which might lead to low self-esteem and conflict among students, because they might not be able to afford certain things.
Also, if a student is wearing cultural attire that may be important to them, some students may use this as a way to target another student, as the others may not be familiar. However, this can be stopped if school uniform is applied at a school.
Since everyone wears the same clothes and pays the same price, students feel neither inferior nor superior to anyone else. School uniforms shouldn’t be deemed outdated, rather it is an efficient strategy to decrease bullying amongst students in schools.
In addition, school uniforms keep children safe in the external environment. In most cases, a uniform visibly shows the school logo, and the school colours. This makes the child easily identifiable as the school can easily be contacted.
For example, if a child is on a school excursion, and happens to get lost in the facility, the child can reach out for help from a supervisor or a staff member.
Because the school has a clear image and name, and is easy to contact, they can effectively bring children back to their group. The child could also spot their group if they recognise their uniform and their group going past.
However, if the child were not wearing a school uniform, chances are that it wouldn’t be easy to help the child with their way, as they group and the child themselves would blend inn with the rest of the crowd on the excursion.
School uniforms aren’t outdated, rather they continuously help to identify students and help keep them safe.
Some naysayers may argue that school uniforms are outdated, as purchasing them is an unnecessary cost and can be very expensive, and would rather wear clothes of their choice. However, this is misleading. School uniforms can be expensive, but not as expensive as constantly buying new clothes.
This is because in a student’s school life, most of the week is spent in school uniform, at school, meaning that the child is wearing the same pieces all the time. Beside this, clothing of choice means that for many, new outfits have to be created for many pieces of clothing, accessories, shoes and more, similar to how people dress casually.
Students may feel the need to repurchase clothing worn out from continuous wear, or to add clothing to the wardrobe to create a new look, which may cost more than a one-time purchase of a durable uniform.
Dr Singh, a former La Trobe University employee, puts it, the uniform also describes the school’s values ??of emphasising being a student. Furthermore, if some schools do not wear uniforms, students in other schools may follow suit, leading to demonstrations and a complete breakdown of the education system.
As it is an intelligent decision to stay from the undue elements as they do not worry to value the norms of a good citizen, it is important for schools to keep informing their students to know why they have school uniforms rather than falling into the hands of those who don’t care.
Dr. Singh further suggests a school uniform may create a desire to be in that school, which everyone wants to be in. Students can also choose to work in the Defence Force and it is a source of pride to see Defence personnel in uniform. It is a bit embarrassing to say that they also have power, but their power is to maintain the security of the country and the people.
In conclusion, school uniforms should not be declared obsolete. Uniforms provide many advantages to students, and it improves their experience everywhere, whether it be at school, at home, or in outside environments. It fosters a strong sense of unity amongst students, it decreases alarming rates of bullying, and it creates safety for students.
These improvements generally improve the wellbeing of students, parents and others, creating an atmosphere where children feel comfortable and able to thrive. Hence, school uniforms should not be considered outdated, those who know the importance they don’t suggest not to have the uniform.
