The body of a trainee air hostess with Air India was found in a suspicious condition inside her apartment in Marol area of suburban Andheri in eastern Mumbai.
A case of murder has been registered by the Powai police against an unidentified person on the basis of primary information and four teams have been formed to investigate the case.
A person employed at the apartment complex has been detained and is being interrogated by the police.
A resident of Chhattisgarh, the victim was staying at the flat with her elder sister and her boyfriend, both of whom were not present at the house, at the time of the alleged incident.
After the woman did not respond to calls from family, they reached out to her local friends in Mumbai.
When her friends reached her flat and knocked on the door, no one responded.
Later, they went to Powai police station and entered the flat with a duplicate key, PTI reported.
The woman was found lying with her throat slit and was immediately taken to hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
Police have been scanning the local CCTV footage and checking the mobile phone of the deceased to ascertain the motive behind the alleged murder.
Further probe into the matter is underway, the police said.
The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem.
