Sayan Chatterjee New Delhi, 22 September 2024: To celebrate its 92nd anniversary, the Indian Air Force (IAF) will dazzle the skies over Tamil Nadu with a spectacular air show on October 6, 2024. This year’s event is themed “Bhartiya Vayu Sena—Saksham, Sashakt, Atmanirbhar” (Potent, Powerful, and Self-Reliant), emphasising the IAF’s steadfast dedication to safeguarding India’s airspace.
The people of Chennai can look forward to a breathtaking display of aerial prowess, with 72 IAF aircraft performing captivating aerobatics and synchronised formation flying. The event will be held at Marina Beach, beginning at 11 AM. A similar spectacle held over the Sangam area in Prayagraj on October 8, 2023, drew massive crowds, and a comparable response is anticipated this time.
Highlights of the show include performances by the IAF’s elite teams: Akash Ganga, known for their skydiving skills; the Suryakiran Aerobatic Team, famous for their close-formation aerobatics, and the Sarang Helicopter Display Team, celebrated for their precise aerial choreography.
The air show will also feature flypasts and displays by a diverse range of IAF aircraft, each with its unique capabilities and history. From the Indigenous Light Combat Aircraft Tejas to the Light Combat Helicopter Prachand and heritage planes like the Dakota and Harvard, there’s something for everyone to be intrigued by.
The grand event at Marina Beach is open to the public and promises to be an unforgettable celebration of India’s aviation excellence. It will showcase the strength and capability of the IAF in its vital role of defending the nation’s skies.
