33 Solutions for Missing Teeth in Merrillville

Missing teeth can make it tougher to eat, speak, and feel confident about your smile. In the long run, tooth loss may lead to poor diet, self-esteem issues, and overall decreased quality of life. Fortunately, solutions for tooth loss do exist. Whether you’ve lost one tooth as a young person or all of them as an older adult, you may benefit from solutions like crowns, bridges, or different types of dentures. For personalized treatment options, it’s best to consult with your local dentist in Merrillville, Indiana. In the meantime, here’s an overview of a few tooth replacement solutions that dentists commonly offer.

Dental implants

A dental implant is a metal fixture that’s surgically attached to your jawbone. It acts as a tooth root and usually supports one or more artificial teeth. An implant can be used in conjunction with an individual crown, partial dentures, or a bridge.

· Individual dental implant: Your dental surgeon will place a single implant and top it with a dental crown. Single implants may replace individual teeth lost to cavities or accidents. A single implant prevents adjacent teeth from shifting and misalignment.

· Implant bridge: An implant bridge is an option when you’ve lost two or more adjacent teeth. It is a prosthetic comprised of two or more artificial teeth that are affixed to titanium implants placed in your jaw. These prevent bone loss and feel like natural teeth.

· Full fixed arch dental implant: This permanent solution replaces a full arch of teeth. Dentists place four titanium dental implants in your jaw and give you a row of artificial teeth to restore your smile. The teeth are not removable and require brushing and flossing.

· Implant dentures: Implant dentures are prosthetic teeth that replace a full row of teeth. They are designed to attach to implants placed in your jaw. Unlike full arch implants, they are removable. Note that both full arch implants and implant dentures are sometimes referred to as permanent dentures.

Dental bridges

A dental bridge is a prosthetic that includes one or more artificial teeth. The prosthetic is usually secured in place by attaching to healthy adjacent teeth. There are a few different types of dental bridges available depending on your needs:

· Traditional bridge: A traditional bridge usually features one or more artificial teeth or pontics flanked by crowns. The crowns are secured to healthy teeth, while the pontic replaces a missing tooth.

· Cantilever bridge: This bridge is fixed in place using just one crown rather than two. This bridge style is sometimes used to replace missing front teeth.

· Maryland bridge: Maryland bridges do away with crowns and instead use metal, porcelain, or ceramic wings to attach the bridge to adjacent healthy teeth.

Removable dentures

Dentures are a removable form of false teeth that replace your teeth and some surrounding tissue. Here are two options you can choose from:

· Full dentures: Full dentures generally replace one or both rows of teeth.

· Partial dentures: Partial dentures are designed to replace gaps in your teeth.

Both types of dentures are customizable and can give you a comfortable fit. Keep in mind that removable dentures can help you eat, speak and smile, but they can’t protect you from bone loss in the jaw.
